How to Get the CIIA Diploma

1. Check the prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and the ability to commit to approximately 300–400 study hours per exam level.
2. Apply through your national / regional society
Locate the ACIIA member society in your country or region and submit the CIIA application form. In countries without a society, use the ACIIA Learning Platform.
3. Study & prepare
- Download the official syllabus & reading list.
- Join classroom or online prep courses offered by your society.
- Review sample questions and past papers.
4. Pass the exams
- You must clear three exam blocks:
- Foundation Level: 3 papers (multiple‑choice, calculations, essays).
- National / Regional Exam: 1 paper on local regulation & ethics.
- Final Level: 2 papers (case studies & essays).
Exemptions may be available if you hold a recognised degree or designation — check with your society.
5. Gain professional experience
Accumulate minimum 3 years (1 year for Learning‑Platform candidates) of relevant work in financial analysis, portfolio management, or investment services.
6. Receive your CIIA diploma & charter
Once you have passed all exams and proven your experience, your society will recommend you for the CIIA diploma. You will also sign the ACIIA Code of Ethics.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the entire process take?
The typical candidate completes all exams and experience within 18–24 months, depending on exam sessions and work schedule.
What are the fees?
Fees are set by each society and include registration, exam, and membership components. Expect roughly EUR 1,500–2,500 in total.
Can I retake an exam?
Yes. Two exam sessions are offered per year. There is no limit on retakes, but an exam fee applies each time.
