ACIIA principles of ethics - Public consultation completed

Throughout April, the ACIIA held a public consultation period to obtain comments on its recently developed ACIIA Principles of Ethical Conduct. The principles aim to form a supra-national policy vis-à-vis the individual ACIIA member societies, and to stimulate the further development of national standards towards ACIIA best practice.

The comments obtained will now be processed by the ethics working group, chaired by Giampolo Trasi, prior to presenting the final draft of the Principles of Ethical Conduct to the ACIIA AGM on 30th June 2005.

ACIIA Chairman Kiyoto Hagiwara (second left) and ACIIA Treasurer Toshihiko Ishida (far right) meet with representatives of the Securities Commission, Malaysia.

The Chairman of ACIIA®, Kiyoto Hagiwara, and delegates from The Security Analysts Association of Japan (SAAJ) visited Malaysia and Thailand to promote CIIA® programs on 30 March and 1 April respectively. They had fruitful meetings with the authorities and key industry partners.

In Malaysia, the Securities Commission, the governmental authority for the securities industry, and the Licensing Department of the Securities Industry Development Centre, a one-stop examination body for the securities industry under the Commission were attracted by the ACIIA and CIIA program. Dr. Syed, chairman of the Malaysian Analysts Association, RIIAM, also expressed his intention to promote the CIIA® and was confident in getting support from the authorities.

In Thailand, Mr. Robert Bunker, ASAF Deputy Chairman, also joined the delegates, and they visited the Securities Analysts Association of Thailand, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and The Stock Exchange of Thailand. The Thailand Securities Institute, under the SEC, offers CISA (Certified Investment and Securities Analyst) exams. The CISA program is accredited by the ACIIA, therefore CISA professionals in Thailand can directly sit the CIIA final level examinations. To increase the visibility of the CIIA in Thailand, the delegation asked SET for their support. All parties have committed themselves to reviewing the CIIA program to take the next step.

On the same day at the ASAF seminar held in Bangkok, ACIIA Council member Gary Cheung outlined the CIIA® program to an audience of about 100 from all over Thailand aiming to publicize the global CIIA ® qualification.
