ASAF Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference in Beijing

Bill Kwok elected as new ASAF Chairman

ACIIA federation member ASAF (Asian Securities Analysts Federation) held its annual general meeting and annual conference at the Shangri-La Hotel in Beijing, on October 26 and 27, respectively. The host society of the events was the Securities Analysts Association of China (SAAC).

At the annual general meeting, having fulfilled his term of four years as ASAF Chairman, Mr. Kiyoto Hagiwara of SAAJ passed over the chairmanship to Mr. Bill Kwok of the Hong Kong Securities Institute (HKSI), and was reelected as ASAF Deputy Chairman. Bill Kwok brings extensive experience in the securities and investment industry to the Chairman position. He has served as a member of the Securities and Futures Appeals Tribunal, the Takeovers and Merger Panel and the Investigation Panel A of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a former chairman (1998-2001) of the Hong Kong Securities Institute (HKSI), and is currently a director of the HKSI, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, the Wing On Company International Limited and the Investor Compensation Company Limited.

The theme of the Annual Conference was "Trend and Outlook of Asian Capital Market Developments in the 21st Century" and the topics covered current issues faced by capital markets in Asian and Oceania, as well as policies and development trends of the markets. Thanks to the support of the respective ASAF member societies, the conference topics were presented by a diverse field of experts from Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Australia and Hong Kong. Distinguished speakers from China also gave interesting insights into the recent Chinese monetary policy and financial reform and the outlook for small and middle sized enterprises in China.

The host SAAC rounded out the Annual General Meeting and conference program with a visit to the cultural highlights of Beijing and hosted a gala dinner enabling the participants the opportunity to catch up with colleagues from around the world.

   
CIWM Presentation in Tokyo
 

Organized by the Security Analysts Association of Japan

As a bilateral event between the two ACIIA members SAAJ Japan and SFAA Switzerland, Dr. Jean-Claude Dufournet, CEO of SFAA, Swiss Financial Analysts Association, and Dr. Gerard Huber, member of the Board of SFAA, gave a presentation on the CIWM (Certified International Wealth Manager) program to about 100 participants from banks, securities firms, investment advisory corporations, academics, and practitioners in Japan. The feasibility study of implementing the CIWM program in Japan will be examined by SAAJ in cooperation with academics and practitioners.
